I try hard to support the local green grocers and manage this most of the time. I have had "bad" fruit and veggies from the giant supermarkets and they are always in trouble and in the news about their goods being "fresh". If the supermarkets continue to push out small business the consumer looses out in the end as the supermarkets will then dictate and monopolise the prices,,,,
One thing about living in North Qld is the lack of loads of Green Grocers(or Fruit and Vegie shops)!! There are probably 3 really good ones which I like to support, despite their often higher prices than supermarkets. I really love to buy from the weekend Farners Markrets, and do this when possible. I must admit that the supermarkets up here do actually have some excellent quality fruit and vegeytables and usually at excellent prices,so I confess that I will buy from these as well.......
It depends when we're shopping and what there is available. We go to the fruit shop when it's open, but buy fruit and veg from the supermarket if the fruit shop is shut or we're in a hurry, assuming the fruit and veg there is okay (it varies).
As much as I love markets I buy all my stuff from the supermarket. I generally do my shopping with both the kids and it is too much trouble and effort to go into several different shops. if I can't get it from woollies we miss out!
from a specialised fruit shop, only buy potatoes onions pumpkin from coles and woolies when doing grocery shopping, never carrots from coles or woollies they go moudy very quickly also they do not taste right.
