I grew up understanding the meaning of the 'Advent - Calendar'.
It was made for people to reflect on the meaning and prepare for the Christ Child to come. With each day more expectation, and joy when Dec 25th draws close...I just love to have one for our home, makes it very real.
We have a felt advent calendar that we get out every year. We don't have any gifts inside the pockets; we just use it for decoration. There is a little bear that we move from one pocket to another everyday.
Lovely! :-))

I have never thought about this. Its quite interesting.
I wanted to buy a nice one for Christmas this year - one that would reflect the true meaning of Christmas. Unfortunately, I couldn't find one in time. :-|

I used to buy one for each of my children every year with chocolates inside. My mother in law was really good at crafts, and I am not sure whether she made one for us. I have a container with all her craftwork in it so will have to hunt through that and see if there is one there. I am sure we had one somewhere !!!
In the dim and distant past I think we had them as children . . . before the big "conversion". I have had a chocolate one from Aldi and for the last couple of years I have had the beautiful "virtual" one from Jacquie Lawson.

I used to buy the advent calendars when my son was a toddler, and he used to love opening the window and having the chocolate, it was fun for him.
I used to buy the ones with chocolates in them but they are a waste of money. I'd rather put the money into a decent block of chocolate instead.
I do buy advent calendars - The ones which come with a chocolate a day for the kids and the ones which come with a treat a day for the dog!
No

No, I don't buy them. The nicest ones I've seen don't have the MILk chocolates inside/behind the pictures, & the same calendar can be used over & over again!
Not since I was a child!

They used to have small chocolates' behind each days' frontispiece.

I'd eat them, before theie 'due date'!
