There are songs that I absolutely love but cannot listen to because I made the serious, but unconscious blunder of associating them with people or times in my life I would rather forget or leave in my past.
Have you associated songs with people or times in your life? If so, can you still listen to those songs or do you avoid them?
Absolutely! The best times of my life all have a soundtrack. I use this all the time when I'm writing fiction. If I want to convey a certain emotion in my writing, I have a soundtrack for that emotion. For a sense of awe I toss on Mathew Good's album titled Avalanche. Medieval battle seen? Then Extreme's Three Sides to Every Story is perfect. Happiness is John Mayer's Room for Squares the Blind Melon self-titled album. And so on.
I don't think I have ever tended to associated music with certain people or certain periods of my life. The closest I've come is connected music to TV or film when it has been a score, but that is only natural.
