Even though I am always on time for most things, I do not like being on time at airports as I get nervous hanging around and waiting.

However, nowadays with all the security checks, I guess you need to be on time -last few times to Europe I have gone business class and that is so different -no long lines and no waiting.

Gee, Finy, lucky you going a few times to Europe BUSINESS. Class!
Did you win Lotto, because it's sure not cheap?

I think they get you there too early so I would prob shorten it a bit but...I have forgotten its been so long!
by Fran
No, Fran, "they" (meaning the airline, I take it) DON'T get you there too early!

Check-in time is allocated as the MINIMUM time to be there prior a flight. YOU aren't the only person on the flight! There's anywhere between 120-300 people to be processed. It all takes time. And if there're delays, even longer.

Love your intensity....you obviously feel VERY passionate about this!!!
by Fran
Yes, Fran. Sick of people whingeing because 'they'(airline) wouldn't allow them to board because they were running late! People just don't want to take responsibility for their actions, in ANY area, any more!

I find your comments mildly offensive and think others would agree you are overreacting somewhat....not sticking to the particular subject and generalising....I won't be continuing this conversation...no doubt you would like to have the last word!

I thought you were an Air Hostess, retired?
Why would telling facts be offensive?
The only people who use the 'offensive' tag are those to whom the subject is most pertinent.
Bad luck if you don't like what I say; it's the truth. Suck it up!

Always. Knock on wood, LOL.

My flight last year I arrived 10 mins early, to be told your too late?
Are you saying you arrived 10 minutes' before flight due to leave?
by donjo
Not normally lol.
It has happened twice...only.
Not my fault, as normally I would be there about 2 hrs before.
by jonaja
I have to say YES!! with all the extra charges you have to pay for new tickets if just a few minutes too late,it is not worth the hassle!!
I always get to the airport way before I need to be there. Too nervous about missing the flight
by AJ
Yes I do - then I can relax and know I'm all good to go.
My check-in 'rule of thumb' timings are......
Domestic Flight, -90 minutes.
International Flight, -3 hours.

That way, I'm actually AT the airport, not stuck in traffic enroute there, can relax in the Qantas Lounge, ready for my flight.
This I've done for over FORTY years' & NEVER missed a flight!
We check in way before time, look around, buy a latte & read the free newspapers!

Sometimes we're on standby, & may have to wait for 4 or 5 hours to get on a flight, if 1 has been cancelled before ours is due to leave. 1 night, in '02 we couldn't get on flight out of London to Bangkok, so we stayed in the airport all night. We were lying on lime green plastic seats. Then the cleaners came around on a noisy machine at 2am. The following morning my husband found a flight going to Singapore, so we took that, as it was leaving earlier than the Bangkok flight. We stayed in Singapore for 3 days, then flew to Bangkok for 10 days. Well my daughter & I stayed for 10 days, but my husband left after 5 days, as he'd had enough of the heat, & had been there before, back in '76.
