Don’t think so? Try telling that to Glassons’ CEO, Denise L’Estrange-Corbet, who, in defense of the company’s use of skinny mannequins – which by the way, have protruding ribs, insisted that clothes do in fact "look better on skinny people".
She went on to say that skinny models have always been a part of the fashion world and they always will be.
What do you think? Do clothes look better on skinny people? Is Denise simply stating an unpopular truth or is she contributing to a culture in which the feminine ideal is ridiculous, exclusionary and problematic? What would you say to Denise if you had the opportunity?
Plus size women can look good in clothes, but they need to be made in a way that will fit their body shape. Most of the time, plus sizes are simply made bigger, and do not adjust for the body shape difference, meaning overweight women do not look as good in the outfit as skinnier people do, because the the garments don't fit their body in the same way.
I would prefer to say they look better on "trim" people, as "skinny" for me conjures up images like the one Jonaj posted. When someone is that skinny, any clothes just look like rags and you can't help focusing on the poor person instead of the clothes anyway - I just want to call an ambulance for them.
Some clothes do, like most of what you see on catwalks at fashion shows. It would be nice if they made the clothes to suit people rather than having to find skinny models to make ridiculous clothes look good. Using models and mannaquins with protruding ribs is unhealthy and really bad for young girls who will grow up seeing this stuff everywhere.
I have not heard of any of this but I think to be honest, clothes DO look better on skinny people than on overweight people.
Though on saying that, I have an overweight friend who dresses immaculately, and is always very smart however I still think clothes look nice on thin people as they can wear almost any style and if you are overweight there is a lot that is not flattering.
Not always. Some clothes can only look alluring when clinging to some curves. What would I say to Denise . . .? (in best bogan voice) "Yeah, Denise, i'se wid yo, gal. Them guys and gals from Treblinka, Auschwitz and Bergen/Belsen really ROCKED them glad rags; ya moron!" (Apologies in anyone is offended, it was NOT my intention.)
