I don't eat them, as they are known to do that to a fair few people.

No. I think that mostly happens if you don't eat them very often. If you eat beans and other pulses all the time your system gets used to them. It also helps to make sure you prepare them right (eg. soaking them long enough if you use dried ones).
I like spaghetti in a can
much more than beans I'd say....
but some folk love their beans so much
they're simply "blown away".......
I'll eat my chick peas, refried too
but baked beans I don't covet.
and those that do..won't tell you so...
but you'll soon catch wind of it!
