A study in England has found that more than half of secondary school boys and two-thirds of girls never shower after sports lessons. They are connecting this with being less active and less fit and say that schools need to encourage showering after sports to increase pupils' fitness.

Not always, only because we didn't have enough time.
I never showered, no. Getting naked in front of the whole class was my idea of hell! But no one else showered either. There was no time!
Why is not showering after sport supposed to make you less active? Do kids not play as hard because they don't want to work up a sweat so they don't have to shower afterwards? I always shower after I go running because I otherwise I stink and feel gross.
I didn't shower after school sport though because we didn't have showers at school. There wouldn't have been time between classes for that anyway.
They didn't find a definite reason for the correlation between reduced fitness and not showering but they definitely thought there was one.... and speculated that it was exactly what you've suggested - not wanting to get sweaty as they didn't want to shower afterwards.
Maybe the kids aren't as active as they should be because they are avoiding the post sports shower. They might have a fear of stripping off and jumping into the shower. There's a lot of intelligent kids our there these days !

I never showered after sports at school. I don't recall anyone using the showers.... though we did all have to have a school towel with our name embroidered on it. I took mine in when I started and took it home when I left 7 years later.... it was never used in the meanwhile!
At school? No. We never had the opportunity, and what's a little sweat until the end of the day?

I have to smile at this question.
When I went to school, there were no showers -we were not that modern -I do not think we would have had time for showers anyway as it was from one lesson to the next including sports.

Modern? Have you seen my photo??
My school showers dated back to the early 1900s I think....
Yes I saw your photo but was just saying that my school did not have showers!

As if you'd have time for that between a Sports Class & normal lesson! Another 'conclusion' which was a waste of money!
I played ground sports everyday of my years' at School, & NEVER felt inactive!

We were required to go through a 'walk through' shower, in our cozzies before, & after swimming, though.
That kept the pool sort of clean, & got chlorine smell & 'feeling' off you afterwards!
