I loved reading as a child, always had my nose stuck in a book.... I read anything and everything, every form of printed matter in the house, I used both mine and my mother's library cards to get the maximum number of books out every week and we had a mobile library van that came by our house that I borrowed from....
And of course I can remember my first book, I was SO PROUD when I read a book all by myself without any help! It was Mr Bump by Roger Hargreaves. I was three years old and thrilled to be an independent reader at last.
Not for the life of me. It must've been some reader my teacher's sent home from school. I do remember reading one of the Selby Supersnoop books in year three. That is perhaps the earliest recollection I have. Actually, I lie. I remember reading Grandpa by Norman and Young in the first or second grade, though that was a picture book.
I haven't the foggiest idea what the first book I ever read would be. Reading for myself it would probably have been one of the dull school readers they used to give us- "This is Ann. This is John. They are on a boat." That sort of thing. I did love reading as a child and I read a lot. Still do.
I remember starting to read a Famous 5 book one day and I got so engrossed in it I read the whole thing that afternoon. I loved it and I ended up reading the whole series. I must have read books before that, but that's the first one I felt really satisfied about reading.
