Not knowing what town/city you're in, best answer is.......
'To All the Corners' of the Globe'!
Where I live, I can tell from whence overhead aircraft have come, & to which port they're travelling, by virtue of time, direction & engine pitch.
This I've done since a kid, as 'plane' interest imbued by my Father, who was in the RAAF!
Flying is one 'love' I have, & it's simply marvellous! Cheers!
Although I am in a very central little suburb I do not get Traffic noise apart from ambulances as the depot is quite close,on the nearest main road.
This never bothers me though, as I actually have needed this emergency service twice and it is so comforting to know they are so nearby!!!
I only have traffic of any note when people are going to work in the morning and coming home in the evening...on the weekend as in now, there is nothing....I live opposite a park with lake and fountain, very green which I love..ducks and storkes..couple of swans and pelicans come approx. once a year too.
Get lots of street traffic where I am now, especially the 'hoons' who live in expensive apartments in gated community, whose parents' indulge them with top-notch sports cars, & seem to have endless 'coffers'. You can guess which nationality. The same one that owns SIX houses' in a row, along the street! No wonder the Fed. Govt. is going to tax them! Where do they get their multi-millions from? How do they get it out of their original country into here?
The houses have sold recently, lowest paid was $930k, highest $1.3 million! And these are just small suburban blocks; lucky if they 22 perches each! I know same person bought 2 side by side, so will probably knock down houses & build apartments blocks, making more squillions $$$$$$ in the process! No wonder Mr & Mrs Aussie Battler can buy anything!
Where I lived before, was close to a four lane major road, but heard no noise, as protected by about 6 houses nearby, & our huge, thick trees, which we planted as saplings 40 years' ago!
Doesn't everyone? Well everyone living in the city or suburbia. There are always rods around, I grew up next to a school, so that was busy at 3pm everyday. Then I lived in Tasmania, in a fairly quiet street, but there were buses everyday. Living in the inner suburbs of Melbourne was VERY noisy with ambulances, police sirens and helicopters going to the hospital every week.
Now we live in back streets of outer Melbourne, MUCH better :)
The road we live on is pretty quiet most of the time but when there's a delivery lorry or a construction vehicle I can hear those. It's very handy when it's the bin lorry and I can run out and wheel the bin to the front if I've forgotten it but otherwise it can be a bit annoying.
There is a highway not far from our complex, and we can hear trucks going by all day, but our bedroom faces away from the highway, so we rarely hear them at night. It doesn't really bother me because the highway is not that busy, it it was constant, it would probably drive me nuts.
Not a lot - I live in a beautiful leafy suburb of Brisbane which, in the UK, would be called a village. The only traffic noise is the sound of cars in the local area. You can also sometimes at night hear the sound of trains in the distance (sounds like a C & W song).
I can hear cars on the race track at Eastern Creek although we live some distance from the area and the noise seems to carry more on the wind. I occasionally hear road noise from the Great Western Highway, like sirens or heavy vehicles in the early morning hours when I'm awake but it doesn't bother me.
