Some folks are naturally talented at seeing things in small detail and spotting mistakes. They make good proof readers! It seems a US sheriff's office in Florida could have done with someone like that after a rug saying "In dog we trust" lay in the office for two months before anyone noticed the mistake.....
On the whole I make a very pernickety proof reader, spotting all sorts of small details.... I like to think that if I had walked into that Sheriff's office, I would have been chortling as soon as I saw the rug :)
It all depends on what I am looking at and how much of a hurry I am in.
Spelling mistakes I can see instantly, and I do not understand how there are any as most programmes now underline a word (such as programmes spellt the Australian way) so the person writing can see that it is incorrect.
Definitely. It really irritates me when I see examples of bad spelling. Like Verity, I would have picked up this mistake right away, but had a good laugh at the same time. I think good spelling is something which is ingrained in childhood if you are taught properly, and never leaves you.
